Days 5 & 6 of 8 Thames Path West - Lechlade to Newbridge

It was raining heavily in Lechlade, so we decided to skip walking today. We took some time to explore Lechlade-on-Thames. 

We took an Uber to The Trout Inn at Tadpole Bridge, the accommodation we would have walked to.  I was looking forward to having a nice dinner here. The Inn did not disappoint us.
The photo just above, was taken during dinner at The Trout. A sunset is starting to appear!
The next morning, I needed to walk from The Trout Inn at Tadpole Bridge to Newbridge.  The path was VERY muddy. I consulted Google Maps for a walking-friendly route. They provided the Thames Path or a series of small roads, gradually getting busier as they approached Newbridge.
I decided to do that alternate walk. I think Carl rode with baggage transfer guy again. His cold is getting worse. 
The road route was quite good except the last section on A415, a major road. That was scary as there was only a short distance of sidewalk. With no breakdown lanes, I had to jump up into the grasses/shrubs on the side of the road when a car approached. Not fun. FitBit said I had a good cardio workout during that section! Ha!
Carl was waiting for me when I arrived at the inn. We enjoyed a couple of dry ciders!

May 12, Cotswold Way - King's Stanley to Dursley

Yesterday, I walked from King's StanIey to Dursley. It was geographically 7.5 miles. Short, I thought. I started walking at 9:15. But the ups and downs were very challenging. I was quite behind in time, and I needed to meet a taxi at the Old Spot Inn at 5 pm.  I panicked about 3 pm. My hiking directions said a tarmac road was coming up. When I got there, I checked in with the Google Maps app. It responded with a walking route to Dursely on back lanes 2.3 miles - less than an hour. Yes! I can walk faster on tarmac, and there were no steep slopes. I arrived at Old Spot with enough time to enjoy a pint of dry cider and a packet of roasted peanuts.😁 I am taking today (Sat, May 13) off. I need to rest, and do some laundry. The hills are ghastly on the Cotswold Way. The next hike to Sodbury 12.6 mi down the trail, also starts with a corker of a hill. May 15 - The Cotswold Way Old Sodbury to Cold Ashton

Well, I can't provide photos from the trail because I didn't walk the trail. A muscle just to the back of my left hip (a glute?) is in pain. Even Aleve is not helping. Elsie at the Old Sodbury Hotel suggested that I take the Stagecoach 620 from the stop up the street to Bath. There, I'd be able to get a taxi to my next accommodation. The bus ride was fun. We went to several small towns. The names of town in this area are creative. Here is a screen capture from Google Map, to give you an idea. I laughed out loud when I read Pucklechurch on a directional sign we passed. This bus was clean and, when I took the photo, had few passengers. More folks climbed on board as we got closer to Bath. Most everyone was around my age or older. We passed this house being engulfed by Wysteria. It took about an hour to reach Bath. Since it was 10-ish, I went into Cafe Nero for a coffee. May 23 - 24 Homeward Bound

A vacation must come to an end. How else can you have another one? With that amazing thought, I thought I'd share our exit from Great Britain a.k.a. The United Kingdom. We left our hotel after breakfast, and dragged our suitcases a half mile to the bus depot, where we boarded the air Express to Heathrow. We had reserved seats in row 3. The bus never really got full. More half of the passengers got off in Bristol. From there to London Heathrow airport was non-stop on the M4 highway. My friend, Carl, took a similar bus from Oxford to LHR two weeks ago. The trip was uneventful. We arrived about 3 pm, retrieved our suitcases and set off to find a Hoppa bus. These buses constantly circle the airport perimeter picking and dropping off passengers at hotels. It costs £6 each. We found the bus stop, and waited at least 40 minutes for a bus.
